Keep it Fair, Keep it Simple, Keep it Real!
Twelve Guidelines we all agree to Trade by:
1. TREAT OTHERS THE WAY YOU WANT TO BE TREATED.
Be committed to trading fair! No one likes to be taken advantage of and most people
do know when the price iisn't right. Remember that this exchange offers free exposure
and the chance to gain new paying customers. If we always treat people with fairness
and respect, soon we will have friends all over the network and they will refer us to their
paying friends and neighbors too! If we don't, they will probably call me and I will have
to lower your rating.
2. PRICE IT RIGHT.
Whether you have goods or services to offer, over pricing is not allowed. If you notice another member over pricing, please call the office and let us know immediately. Members who try to take advantage by exaggerating worth will jeopardize their standing, and their membership may be terminated. Please keep in mind that we are all an integral part of this community and here to help each other.
3. YOU MUST CALL FOR AUTHORIZATION.
We do not have to honor any trades that have not been pre-authorized by this office. It is extremely important to call for an authorization prior to starting a job, or trade, with another client to protect you and them.
4. KEEP IT SIMPLE...TRADE AT 100%.
There are times when cash may be involved, but it must be authorized through the exchange in order to protect all parties. If someone asks you for cash, please contact us immediately. For those of you who ask for cash without authorization, we have the right to revoke your membership and we probably will! We know that everyone needs cash customers, but we are a Friendly barter service created to offer benefits to businesses and individuals that you don't get out in the cash world. Namely, pay the tax and keep your cash! If you are not here for this reason, your here for the wrong reasons! Products or supplies used on a trade that are not reimbursed are tax deductible.
5. DON'T FORGET TO TIP IN CASH.
Remember to tip 15-20% cash, consider more for a job well done, to service employees who don't receive any benefits from your bartering privileges. People want to be appreciated and if you have ever worked in the service industry, it can be really hard work and most rely on tips to supplement their income.
6. PROMPTLY RESPOND TO TELEPHONE CALLS.
Have you ever gotten really excited about something, made a phone call and then had to wait forever for a reply? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE return EVERY call, whether you are wanting to accept the offer or not. Remember that this is going to be a premier, local community network. We are here to make friends, build bridges, and get referrals. Even if you don't want to trade with someone, that someone knows at least 50 other people. Treat them like you would as if they had just come up to you in your store, with respect and courtesy.
7. JUST SAY "NO!" DON'T TAKE BAD DEALS!
If it smells foul, it is probably rotten! If you ever feel like someone is trying to take advantage of you, don't trade with them and call us. We can assist you in pricing, negotiating and let you know if there have been any other problems with them in the past.
8. TRY TO RESOLVE DISPUTES BEFORE YOU CONTACT US.
Most disputes can be handled by talking it over and communicating effectively. Although things seldom go exactly as we plan on in life, most things can be worked out fairly if we try. No body is perfect and we all have different expectations. Here at "Friends and Benefits" we strive to always encourage all of our members to keep it friendly. We are a constantly growing community. This means we are going to be developing relationships with a lot of neighbors and new friends. Remember the Hatfields and McCoys? Do you really want to go there? In addition, we are trying to keep the costs down so that we can pass the savings along to you and others who rely on, and want this service. I really don't want to have to hire people to police our friendly community. I know we can all get along, but in the event someone is out of control, we certainly need you to inform us of these situations.
9. THIS SHOULD BE A MUTE POINT BUT... WE NEED YOU TO KEEP YOUR FEES CURRENT.
If you do not keep your account up-to-date we can't authorize any purchases for you. We don't want to have to bother you or embarrass you. Please sign up for Auto Pay with your credit card on file. It's easy and won't result in any extra late fees.
10. BENEFIT FROM YOUR GOOD STANDING.
How? By getting referrals from us when members call in for recommendations. In addition, we will extend special sign-on privileges to your family and friends, and/or give you trade credits. Let us know who you have that may be intested in joining the community, and we will barter with you! It's a win, win, win ... for them, for you and for us!
11. PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE.
My mom always told me that "good things come to those that wait." Gosh, I hated it, but it's true. Bartering really does require patience sometimes. Remember, that we are here for you. If you are getting frustrated, call us and let us see if there is something that we can do to help you further. Keep in mind that the more common your service or goods are, the more competition and the more it is needed. With that in mind, excellence always outshines...Strive to be the best!
12. The IRS Is WATCHING.
There are IRS agents assigned solely to police the barter industry. Always collect cash to account for state and federal taxes. You will be provided monthly statements, and at the end of the year, you will receive form 1099-B which you must include in filing your taxes. Barter fees and certain expenses are tax deductible and you should call the office for any questions that you may have. You may also go to
